Groundhog Hill is a flower and vegetable garden located in La Rue County, Kentucky, USA.

Year One was Summer 2012.  Year Two is Summer 2013. Year Three is Summer 2014.

Steve La Rue, a native and prodigal Son, is the caretaker of this garden which also hosts nearby Groundhogs, Wild Turkeys, Deer, Rabbits, Raccoons, Black Angus Cattle, and Blue Birds.

Notes From Groundhog Hill, a weekly newspaper column that appears in The La Rue County Herald News, chronicles Steve’s tales of his adventures in summer gardening (www.laruecountyherald.com) as well as his life growing up and returning some 30 years later to his hometown of Hodgenville, Kentucky.

Steve’s fresh Herbs, Sunflowers, Watermelon and Zinnias all garnered Blue Ribbons from The La Rue County Fair, Kentucky’s oldest continuous County Fair.

Love your newspaper articles! New to the area, but would love to see the zinnias. How do I find you?

    • Thanks, Judy. Groundhog Hill is one mile due East of Lee’s Garden Center on Hwy 31E. The gravel drive is just past a field of corn on the right and just before the bridge. Look for the beautiful Flower Garden barn quilt and the Johnson Grass!
